National Garden Scheme Late at the Garden Museum

The Garden Museum explores and celebrates British gardens and gardening through its collection, temporary exhibitions, events, and garden. Visitors will also see a permanent display of paintings, tools, ephemera, and historic artefacts: a glimpse into the uniquely British love affair with gardens.

The Museum is housed in the historic Church of St. Mary's, adjacent to Lambeth Palace. In the grounds are the tombs of John Tradescant and his son, gardeners to King Charles I and II, and Captain Bligh, whose voyage on the Bounty was in search of the breadfruit tree.

Whether you are an enthusiastic amateur gardener, a specialist, or someone with a passion for museums, history, or architecture, the Museum has something for you.

This special opening for the NGS will include exclusive access to our temporary exhibition Seeds of Exchange: Canton and London in the 1700s on the life and work of John Bradby Blake (11 February – 25 May), an18th-century botanist and trader in Canton, and his collaboration with Whang A Tong. The exhibition features Blake’s plant watercolours, Chinese clay sculptures, printed books, and a Reynolds portrait, revealing early exchanges of plants, knowledge, and culture between East and West.

There will also be botanical art on display, alongside the courtyard and community gardens, giving visitors a chance to enjoy both living plants and artistic interpretations of the natural world.

The entrance fee is split between the Garden Museum and the National Garden Scheme.
