Tour Celebrating 400 Years of Tapestries

Join Curator Emma House for a tour to celebrate four hundred years of tapestry making in Britain with an introduction to our recently conserved Mortlake tapestry. This fascinating piece dates from c.1630 and is the earliest depiction of a woman gardening in our collection.

We will also explore our new exhibition "Threads of Ascent - Tapestries by Clare Woods" together. This exhibition showcases three newly commissioned large scale handwoven tapestries created by Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh, from intimate scale watercolours by Clare Woods depicting climbing weeds. These works transform moments of close observation into monumental woven landscapes, inviting a reconsideration of the plants that are so often overlooked.
