Cookery Masterclass | Flavours of Bangladesh with Dina Begum

Sunday 20 September 2026

Join chef and food writer Dina Begum for a three-hour cookery masterclass in our Learning Studio, where you'll explore the unique and and vibrant world of Bangladeshi cuisine. Discover how to create a mouth-watering selection of dishes that draw on the country’s rich and diverse vegetarian food culture.

During this hands-on class, you'll cook and enjoy classic home-style recipes using traditional Bangladeshi pantry staples, including mustard oil and the everyday vegetables that form the heart of family cooking. These simple yet flavourful dishes are both approachable and rewarding, making them a wonderful addition to your home cooking repertoire.

The experience concludes with a relaxed lunch overlooking the museum's courtyard garden, where you'll enjoy the dishes you've prepared together.

Sample Menu

Aloo Bhorta – mashed potatoes with sautéed onions, dried chillies, fresh coriander and mustard oil, served with rice
Patla Dal – a light lentil dish tempered with garlic and chillies
Beguni – crisp fried aubergine fritters
Shemai – sweet vermicelli pudding with milk

Open to all levels of skills and interests.  This class is suitable for Adults 18 and over.

*This class is part of our hands-on monthly masterclass cooking sessions, which focus on specialist topics or advanced cooking techniques.  Sessions are usually on Sunday and held in the Garden Museum’s  food learning studio. Each class is 3 hours, and will include tastings or a full meal eaten together depending on the course
