Family Autumn Hybrid Nature Craft
Tuesday 27 October 11am - 3pm
Creative making with nature and circuits
The Garden Museum and University College London’s Crafting Sustainabilities Collective, are pleased to offer a four hour workshop aimed at fostering connection between children and nature through craft. During the workshop we will create a leafy lantern made with the natural materials we will forage from the Community garden. The workshop will teach children (aged 8+) to construct a light circuit for their lantern and to create artistic gel prints that give their lantern a distinctive identity. Children aged 5-7 will take part in a different activity during the circuit making.
The workshop stems from previous UCL research which has found that exploring local nature places through the sensory, aesthetic and expressive medium of craft can support children’s connection to nature.
Schedule of activities
11:00-11:45pm: Nature walkthrough (Museum’s Community garden)
11:45-12:15pm: Lunch (Clore learning room) Please bring packed lunch.
12:15-1:15pm: Introduce leafy lantern, discuss techniques, and demonstrate circuit building
1:15-1:45: Child-led circuit building and testing for children aged 8 years plus, those aged 5-7 will have an alternative activity.
